Am I eligible for a renovation grant for moisture control (Wallonia)?
Do you suffer from a moisture problem? If so, it is important to do something about it. Unfortunately, the cost of effective moisture control can sometimes be quite high. Fortunately, if you live in Wallonia or have a (holiday) home there, you can take advantage of various premiums to tackle damp in your home.
In this article, we discuss which premiums you can claim in the Walloon region (anno 2025) and what conditions are attached to them.

! New in 2025: a temporary support programme from the Walloon government
Initially, from 1 June 2019, the Walloon Region operated the premium system where renovation and energy premiums were merged under the name of 'Primes Habitation', which requires a home audit. In 2022, the system was updated because of rising energy prices and to encourage energy renovations. This led to the introduction of 'Primes Simplifiées', which do not require a prior audit. Since then, there have been two types of premiums: 'Primes Habitation' (with audit) and 'Primes Simplifiées' (without audit).
However, this system was axed in 2025. At 14 February 2025 Walloon government introduced new temporary aid programme. This initiative aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes in Wallonia, as the majority of houses currently have an F or G energy label. Its ultimate goal is to achieve an average A label by 2050.
To support this, several financial tools were made available:
Primes Habitation (with housing audit)
To qualify for the 'Primes Habitation' renovation grants, you need to hire an approved auditor. This expert will assess the energy performance of your home, detect any (moisture)problems and draws up a priority list of necessary renovation works. Based on this analysis, he provides advice on where best to start to improve your home in a coherent way. This not only helps to increase your living comfort and reduce your energy costs, but also contributes to the fight against climate change. For roof and roof insulation works, an audit is not compulsory.
The final premium you receive depends on the type of work and your income. Below are some examples with the corresponding basic amounts.

Non-residential buildings are also eligible, provided the works are aimed at creating one or more dwellings.
Note: the amounts above are the basic amounts. Depending on your income, the premium can be increased up to six times. The lower your income, the higher the premium.

Tip: you can also apply for a grant to carry out the accommodation audit. You can get at least €76 back for this.

2. Primes simplifiées (without housing audit)
As outlined above, the Walloon government created the simplified renovation premiums in 2022 alongside the 'Primes Habitation', with the aim of encouraging energy renovations. This means that for smaller renovation works, with a maximum amount of €6,000, you can qualify for these premiums without requiring a housing audit. Another difference with the 'Primes Habitation', is that you can also carry out these works yourself.

The premium amount may not exceed 90% of the invoice, including VAT.
You can also apply for these grants for specific measures that help to preventive prevention of moisture problems. Think about installing a mechanical ventilation system or insulating your home.

In addition to renovation premiums, advantageous VAT rate
Is your home older than 10 years? Then, in addition to the above renovation grants, you are also eligible for the reduced VAT rate of 6% on renovation works.
Note: this rate of 6% only applies when the works are carried out by a contractor. If you carry out the works yourself, the construction materials you need will be subject to the normal rate of 21%.
What if you experience moisture problems and live in Brussels?
Do you live in Brussels? Then you fall under the rules of the Brussels-Capital Region, and the aforementioned renovation subsidies and rates do not apply. In Brussels, you can use the Renolution system, which allows you to apply for subsidies for renovation works and moisture control. The amount of the premium depends on your income category, with reimbursements of 30%, 50% or 80% of the costs.
