Why is my plaster coming loose? That's not normal, is it?

How can I tell from my plaster that I have a moisture problem?

There are several ways you can recognize a moisture problem: Is it a wall with only plaster? If so, you'll see color differences in the plaster, white salt circles on the wall or damp spots. On the other hand, is your wall painted or wallpapered? Then the paint is peeling off or the wallpaper is coming loose. In other cases, the plaster itself comes loose or cracks appear.

Although there are differences symptoms, so it is not difficult to notice that there is a problem in that wall.

What should I do if my plaster is coming loose?

First and foremost, what you should not do is simply repaint, re-paint or re-plaster the wall without addressing the problem. Re-plastering the wall may get the problem out of sight, out of mind, but it won't solve it.

It is important to speak to an expert to know exactly what the problem is and what needs to be done to solve that problem.

What are the causes of loose plaster?

The two most common causes of loosening plaster are condensation moisture due to cold bridges, penetrating moisture and rising damp. They are both solved in completely different ways: in the case of penetrating moisture, the facade is treated to make it water repellent. With rising damp, for example, the walls are injected with a damp-proofing gel to block the moisture's path. These problems must be solved before we start plastering. Otherwise, the problem will return in no time.

How does AquaConsult go about plastering?

After addressing the cause of the loose plaster, we remove the affected plaster to about 1 meter above the pass of the house. Was the plaster also affected by salts? If so, we first and foremost apply a salt-resistant film before we begin plastering. This way, salts will not have a chance to flourish on the walls.
